Free thinkers: members of the Reform group outside the Chinese embassy

TWELVE Reform Chavurah members took a Pesach stand against oppression by joining a "Free Tibet" vigil outside the Chinese embassy.

Twenty-seven-year-old Malcolm Cohen, from Edgware, who heads the young adults group, explained: "We participated because Pesach is all about pidyon shvuyim [freeing the oppressed]. Sitting round the Seder table discussing it is all well and good but we wanted to support a cause which needs help now."

The group - which is establishing links with like?minded Progressive organisations worldwide- reported a "really positive" response from passers-by.

"We were holding up banners saying, 'Beep your horn for Tibet,"' Mr Cohen reported. "There was plenty of beeping. We now hope to play a larger part in the 'Free Tibet' campaign and will attend the weekly vigil on other occasions."
