The Guardian, Wednesday September 19th:

China spells out its terms
China has set out its terms for cooperation with the US, hinting at the need for assurances on US policy towards Tibet. A foreign ministry spokesman said the US had to support and understand its fight against terrorism and separaists.
"We should not have double standards," he said. China says it faces a threat from Islamist terrorists in the north-west region of Xinjiang bordering on Central Asia.

The Guardian, Letters, Saturday September 22nd:

Double Standards
China says the US "had to support and understand its fight against terrorism and separatists" (China spells out its terms, September 19.) The real terrorists are the murdering forces of the People's Liberation Army who have slaughtered 1.2m Tibetans since 1950.
The Tibetans shame both China and we in the west for our double standards.
While we argue about which form of violence we will return for violence, the Tibetans continue with their peaceful struggle. These rare people have resisted succumbing to the hatred of "an eye for an eye".
