As part of International Hear Tibet Day , held on Wednesday 25th
April.19 people gathered outside BP's headquarters in Finsbury
Circus EC2. Armed with just voices, a loudhailer, banners and
flags to protest against BP's investment in PetroChina, a Chinese
firm which is extracting oil and gas from Tibet. The Dalai Lama
has asked BP not to strengthen China's control over his country
in this way, especially as it gives BP's tacit approval to the
terrible abusive regime that China has inflicted for 50 years.
Tibetan supporters did a fantastic job creating noise and attracting
attention to the fact that BP is still investing in Petro China
and their theft from Tibet. (Whether it stands for Bloody Petrol
, Bloody Parasites or not is not clear). The Bloody Petrol company
has been collaborating with China for 25 years and has had a
long-standing disregard for human rights. Recently when asked
at their AGM had they ever pulled out of a country due to Human
Rights..They responded " ..Well. We'll leave that up to
our shareholders to work out " See a multi-national that
isn't even bothered by not having an ethical policy.
There was a keen amount of interest that came from people
entering and leaving the building..by the looks of it most of
the employees had either been told nothing or had been informed
that there was a bunch of anarchists outside ready to kill them
!! ha ha! Whilst those outside chanting vociferously knew where
the real anarchists were , well ecological terrorists! ,inside
the building on the fourth floor!! We were informed that the
directors including Johnny be bad Brown (the MD) and other directors
were here.So they suffered a barrage of noise for 3 hours , Oh
how they must have wished for double glazing. Spirits were good
and as I have mentioned, it wasn't long before a fair proportion
of the workers in and around Finsbury Circus knew of our presence.
Taking leaflets and generally taking notice . I would recommend
that anyone reading this thinking of coming to next event or
protest should do so .They are serious but still good humoured
at times and effective in that it creates bad publicity for BP
, informs the general public what the company is really like
when its not hiding behind its ecological façade and generally
annoys them . Next time - It'll be NOISIER
BP OUT OF TIBET. PETRO CHINA OUT OF TIBET. FREE TIBET.
